ski new zealand

treble cone

The biggest and steepest ski field in the South Island has a commanding position in the Southern Alps, and in the hearts of New Zealand’s skiing fraternity.

The name, ‘Treble Cone’, conjures up vivid images of ‘Ski Heaven’ - epic views, natural half pipes, big mountain chutes and powder.

Treble Cone has that ‘X’ factor quality that sets it apart. From its 2,100 metre summit skiers are gobsmacked by the view of a hundred snow-capped peaks in Mt Aspiring National Park and the Southern Alps. The field drops 660 metres vertical metres which appears to dip into the serene waters of Lake Wanaka far below. All this terrain provides exhilarating runs,, wrapped and augmented with superwide cruisy groomed slopes thanks to millions of dollars spent over the 2006/2007 summer on trail enhancement. The longest run takes you from the top of the Saddle Quad down 4kms of gentle terrain to the base lodge café below.

For three years now it has been awarded ‘Peoples Choice; New Zealand Ski Area Service Award’.

Total lifting capacity is a whopping 6,200 people per hour with the high-speed six-seater chairlift, quad fixed grip chairlift, a platter lift and a magic carpet. This combined with the 550 hectares of skiable terrain means that Treble Cone has the least crowded slopes in the Southern Lakes region. Snow ratings are 10% beginner, 45% intermediate and 45% advanced and the season runs from June to October. Treble Cone is 29kms from Wanaka and 90kms from Queenstown. The 7km mountain access road is unsealed. Coach trips operate daily from Queenstown, and there are regular shuttles from Wanaka township.

The field is renowned for its exceptional service, off-piste powder skiing, exhilarating downhill runs and a reputation for consistently good snow conditions. Snowboard freeriders love Treble Cone for its natural half-pipes, rock drops and gully runs. The terrain park features tabletops and rail slides and the field hosts top ski and boarding competitions.

The picturesque lakeside resort of Wanaka offers après-ski conviviality with a variety of cafés, bars and accommodation. Treble Cone is a special place. The distinction of having the longest descents and more vertical than any other New Zealand ski field provides an experience that you just can’t resist.

Treble Cone is a total experience of wicked terrain, stunning views and fantastic fun.
